Amy’s path to leadership is rooted in resilience. She first shared her recovery story just weeks after treatment at a Unite to Face Addiction–Michigan event. That moment—met with a standing ovation—launched her advocacy career, leading her to:

• Speak at the Michigan Capitol on addiction recovery and stigma
• Mentor individuals and families navigating early recovery
• Appear in the award-winning documentary My Secret is My Story
• Partner with organizations like FAN (Face Addiction Now) and The Amber Reineck House

Her message is always grounded in hope and humility: “My story doesn’t define me—but it reminds me who I’m here to help.”

Creating Safe Space for Recovery—One Call at a Time

In her role at River’s Bend, Amy is often the first point of contact for people in crisis. Whether she’s answering the phones, supporting staff, or comforting a parent, she meets each moment with deep empathy and zero judgment.

Amy’s work includes:

• Training front desk and support staff in trauma-informed care
• Providing peer-informed support to clients and caregivers
• Managing daily operations across both River’s Bend locations
• Coordinating outreach and partnerships with community groups

She doesn’t carry the title of peer recovery coach—but she embodies the values: dignity, presence, and nonjudgmental support. “Sometimes people just need to hear, ‘You’re not alone,’” she says. “And I can say that with my whole heart.”
